What is a Family and Community Engagement Plan?

It is a plan that describes how our school will provide opportunities to improve family engagement that will support student learning at school and at home. All students and their families are invited and encouraged to fully participate in the opportunities described in this plan. The school will provide information and as many opportunities as possible for the participation of all family members.

What is a School-Family Promise?

It is a written agreement that outlines how the school, the students, and the family will work together to ensure your child’s academic success. An effective School-Family Promise contains the following elements:

Clear learning goals that are linked to the school’s improvement plan
Specific skills students will learn during the year
Strategies that staff, families, and students will use to improve student learning
Ways to extend learning at home
Methods teachers and family members will use to communicate about student progress
Opportunities for family members to observe and participate in the classroom
Jointly-developed by families, school staff, students, community business partners, and other stakeholders during our Planning Meeting
Reviewed and revised throughout the year. The Plan..The Promise is revisited during parent/teacher meetings and periodically throughout the school year at Title I Parent Workshops.

Working Together to Ensure Success

Lilburn Middle School will…

Conduct family workshops and schoolwide events where parents can learn the following:
- How to support the school’s efforts to improve student literacy skills.
- How parents can monitor their children’s academic progress, motivate them to achieve their potential, and allow their children to attend remediation opportunities when necessary.
- How to promote their children’s social and emotional growth.

As Students, we will…

Read for at least 30 minutes every night Monday through Thursday, complete assigned homework and study for assessments.
Maintain focus during class lessons and ask teachers questions when material is unclear.
Implement social and emotional learning strategies as taught by teachers and counselors.

As Families, we will…

- Attend workshops to learn about different literacy strategies and implement the strategies at home.
- Monitor children’s academic progress, ensure children are reading at least 30 minutes each night Monday through Thursday, completing assigned homework, and studying for tests.
- Attend workshops to learn how to support our children’s social and emotional development and implement strategies as appropriate.

Did You Know?

Title I is a federal program designed to support school reform efforts to improve teaching and learning for all students.
Title I programs are based on effective means of improving student achievement and include strategies to support family engagement.
The Title I Office reserves at least one percent of the district’s allocation to fund family and community engagement programs. The use of these funds is based on suggestions gathered at our spring Planning Meetings from families and community members. Funds are distributed equally to all our Title I schools.
Childcare and/or transportation may be provided for meetings and school events.

Lilburn Middle School is committed to engaging all students in learning the Academic Knowledge and Skills through research-based best practices with mastery being measured by local, state, national, and world-class standards and re-teaching/reassessing students as needed to actualize their potential.

Our Family Engagement Center has learning games, books, and many other resources available for families to checkout and use at home. Our Parent Instructional Coordinator is Michael Doyne. He is available to help you find resources, navigate the Parent Portal, connect with teachers, and learn about ways you can help your children at home.

Our Family Engagement Center is located in Room 8.192 just behind the Front Office.

Volunteer opportunities are available with our PTSA (Parent, Teacher, Student Association), in the Family Engagement Center, and in the Media Center. Parents and guardians wishing to observe a classroom are invited to contact the grade level academy office to make arrangements.

Lilburn Middle School communicates with families in easy-to-read language through weekly emails, Wednesday Folders, phone calls, during parent workshops and meetings, on the school website and our marquee updates. Almost all communication is provided in both English and Spanish – other languages are available upon request. Collaboration with our families is essential to help our students succeed. Our District Goals

The Blueprint for the Future is the strategic plan for Gwinnett County Public Schools. This plan is organized into four strategic priorities, each with three specific goals. To ensure success, these goals have clear objectives and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to track and measure progress. Each year schools review their data to identify areas for growth and set long-term goals to improve them. This information is used to create a Local School Plan for Improvement (LSPI) aligned to the district's priorities. School staff, families, and community members participate in providing input for the LSPI. Families can easily access the latest strategic plan on the Gwinnett County Public Schools' website.
